Books for Bloggers going to January RHCP Brunch

Hi everyone, I thought it would be a great idea to offer up some of my books to you lovely bloggers I will very shortly be seeing. I have a lot of books in the house and the hospital I usually donate to is inundated at the moment and my poor Mum looked like she would cry when I opened lots of lovely new books on my birthday and over christmas so here are the books I’m offering to bring up (I may need to bring a small suitcase… but hey!) Please please let me know if you want a book and I will strike it off and know to bring it as I don’t want to take books all the way to London no one wants. If I’ve already spoken to you about specific books they’re already in the […]

Important post for previous followers

Just a quick note to say that email followers from the ‘old’ site have now been transferred over, but if you used to follow through wordpress.com and didn’t get an email about this post then I’m afraid you couldn’t be moved over and that if you wish to continue following you need to move to RSS/email over here. Anyone who had moved over to Feedburner and who has been transferred, I can deactivate your Feedburner and will go through both subscriptions later today to do this so you don’t have to. Thanks everyone for your continued support! Edit: All duplicate email subscribers have now been deactivated at feedburner so you’re only following once through wordpress. If you would rather receive your email through feed burner please comment or email me and unfollow through wordpress and I will reactivate your feedburner […]

The move to self-hosted is complete: ChooseYA

Hi everyone, So, if you’re reading this and you are a subscriber this hopefully means you’ve been correctly transferred over to the ‘new’ ChooseYA. Layout wise I’ve gone for a cleaner look and I hope you all like it. I did have a few issues with the transfer, reminding me to double check everything before I press enter, but my host has been brilliant and I’m just waiting for wordpress to let me know if they can move my subscribers over. The main changes you need to know about are that email subscribers are now through feedburner, not wordpress, so you may wish to change over to that. My feedburner RSS is the same so you guys shouldn’t have been affected. I’m hoping to have the first chooseYAtrope post up either today or over the weekend. I just have a […]

2013 at ChooseYA

Firstly I would like to thank everyone for their support with chooseya in 2012. This post has been in varying stages of completion for about a week, but finally just as 2013 settles in, it’s ready. This year I am planning to move from wordpress.com to wordpress.org. I feel that the greater creative control and plug-ins will make certain things easier for both me and you and looking into the costs it isn’t quite as expensive as I thought it would be so money dependent, I will be moving soon, possibly within the next few weeks. I will provide as much notice as I can in case wordpress.com followers need to convert to email or RSS followers to continue to follow me. I know RSS and email subscribers should be fine, and I think wordpress.com will be too,but I’ll be […]

ChooseYA’s Best of 2012

ChooseYA’s Best of 2012

As I did last year, I will be presenting my ‘best of’ books I have read that there were published this year along with my favourite book already published I read this year. Favourite YA Debut   This is such a hard one for me as I truly read a number of outstanding debuts but I have to say that Tanya Byrne’s Heart-Shaped Bruise just blew me away. This is a book that I couldn’t put down and spent a lot of time pointing out phrases I loved and saying to my Mum I wished I had written that bit, and that bit, and that bit. It’s poignant, well-written and simply stunning. I need more of Tanya’s writing now! The YA Book That Broke My Heart Oh, Cat Clarke, you! Undone just left me stunned, speechless (which if you know […]

A Year In Blogging

One year ago today, on a train to university while reading an excellent YA book, I thought seriously about starting a blog. In the month or so before, I’d started really committing and opening up to the fact I wanted to write for children and young adults. It was a tough decision, but while I’d been writing general fiction at uni for three years, I felt a bit like I was going through the paces of what people expected from me. Then I applied for my MA in Writing, which I knew was the one for me over an MA English partly because of one module: Writing for Children and Young People. My tutor, a published children’s author in the UK and all-round awesome person, has really helped to inspire me and within a couple of weeks of the course […]

October at ChooseYA

Hi, You may have noticed that I recently changed the layout for chooseya and I would love to hear your feedback on it and whether it’s working for you! I also know I’ve not been so regularly posting in the last week, and after such a good return to blogging last month, but my router broke and I had no internet except for on my phone for a while. I’m back now and ready to share some reviews of some great reads. I’m also thinking of doing a similar post to this every month, at the start, to let you guys know about blog tours or events I will be featuring on the blog along with highlighting any events about YA that look good. This month I will be taking part in two blog tours: the Breathe blog tour with […]

An Apology, Update and Hint At Things To Come

Apologies for the recent lack of updates. This summer has been really busy for me and stressful and I really sadly haven’t been able to devote as much time as I would like to the blog. However, I am finally starting to have a few of these stresses resolved! My final MA deadline is almost in, I’ve been working on my MFA proposal which is in on Monday so I will be free of then and some of my other IRL stresses are finally coming to a close. So while I’m sorry about having to take a bit of a break, I’m really excited to tell you about what I have in store for September. I’m part of the fabulous Juno Dawson’s blog tour for the paperback release of Hollow Pike (6/9/12) on the 10th and have a fabulous, or should […]

Quercus Blogger Drinks With Cat Clarke – June 2012

So back at the end of June (I know where has the time gone?) I was invited to an evening at Quercus HQ for drinks and a cover reveal with the lovely Cat Clarke and staff at Quercus. It couldn’t have come at a better time for me as I was massively stressed out and an evening in London with blogger friends was just what I needed. I made my way to Baker Street, which I maintain is the coolest and most beautiful of London’s tube stations, and found myself out the huge, terrifying building Quercus is housed in which was full of business people walking out and talking on Blackberries. The floor Quercus is in was really nice though and they had a really nice lounge like area filled with shelves of their books where we spent the evening. […]
